Ingredients

Chicken
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
Coating
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
Sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes optional, for heat
Garnish
  • sesame seeds for garnish
  • chopped green onions for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. In a bowl, toss chicken pieces with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown and fully cooked, about 5-6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Whisk together honey, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes in a small bowl. Pour the mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve warm over rice or noodles.

Notes

This dish is best served immediately to enjoy the crispiness of the chicken and the richness of the sauce. Adjust the sweetness or saltiness of the sauce to taste by varying the honey or soy sauce quantities.
