Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until creamy and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Blend in sour cream until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Fold in mini chocolate chips or holiday M&Ms.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Lightly press colored sugar or sprinkles on top of each cookie for a festive look.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set but the centers remain soft.
- Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Use room temperature butter and eggs for better dough consistency and fluffier cookies. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking will help cookies hold their shape better and remain soft.
